A team of young Vietnamese art students are crowdfunding the money needed to get their award-winning project, a pop-up book featuring symbolic landmarks of Saigon, or Ho Chi Minh City, published.
In 2015 the five-member team Nextstep and their Saigon Pho (Streets of Saigon) project won the consolation prize of the Souvenir category of Hoa Sen (Lotus) Awards, when the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism solicited new creative tourism products for the southern metropolis.
Designed in the form of pop-up book, which pops up a 3D structure when the pages are turned, Saigon Pho is expected to feature ten most popular architectural landmarks of the city, such as the Ben Thanh Market, the Municipal Theatre and the Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica.
The book will be displayed in both Vietnamese and English, making it an attractive 3D map or souvenir for tourists when in Saigon.

Nextstep has turned to Comicola, a crowdfunding website that supports Vietnamese artists, especially comic projects, to raise fund for the Saigon Pho production.
The team hopes to raise VND150 million (US$6,696) within the one-month crowdfunding campaign that started on November 1.
Backers can choose to support from VND200,000 ($9) to VND8 million ($357). The bigger the funds, the bigger gifts and benefits backers will receive.
By giving VND200,000backers will receive one book, which is expected to fetch VND240,000 ($10), once published.
Should the goal be met on time, the book will get printed in December and will be delivered to the backers in January 2017, according to Nextstep.
