The new giant-ape themed blockbuster film Kong: Skull Island will be screened free in Ninh Binh and Quang Binh provinces which featured in the film's locations.
According to the film distribution partner CJ CGV Vietnam Company, Kong: Skull Island will be shown to farmers in Quang Binh's Minh Hoa District and those near Van Long Nature Reserve in Ninh Binh Province's Gia Vien District.
Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts said the film's landscapes would offer Vietnam a good chance to promote the country's tourism as up to 70% its content shot in Vietnam.
Speaking at a recent meeting, Nguyen Van Tuan, director general of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), announced a plan of creating a Kong: Skull Island tourist route, which will connect Quang Ninh, Quang Binh and Ninh Binh provinces where the film was shot last year. He also tasked relevant agencies with studying the feasibility of opening such a route.
The blockbuster has set a new record in box office revenues in Vietnam after snagging VND18.2 billion (USD798,200) from the opening day on March 10 and early screenings on March 9 night.
According to distribution partner CJ CGV Vietnam, more than 162,000 moviegoers flocked to cinemas nationwide to see the Hollywood monster movie, the first of its kind shot in Vietnam.
On March 10, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism appointed director Jordan Volt-Roberts as Vietnam's tourism ambassador for 2017-2020.
